PURPOSE IN THE WORKPLACE
2 Thess
1:11-12 So we keep on praying for you, asking our God to enable you to live a
life worthy of his call. May he give you the power to accomplish all the good
things your faith prompts you to do. Then the name of our Lord Jesus will
be honored because of the way you live, and you will be honored along with him.
This is all made possible because of the grace of our God and our Lord Jesus
Christ.
Lord
Jesus, You never intended for riches and prestige to quench my thirst for
fulfillment. They merely serve as
empty and bankrupt pursuits that leave me wanting more (1 Tim. 6:6-11). Rather,
fulfillment comes from being in Your presence. “You
show me the path of life. In your
presence there is fullness of joy; in Your right hand are pleasures
forevermore” (Ps 16:11).
Because
You have called me to be a minister of Your mercy and grace (1 Pet. 2:9), please
open wide the doors so I can make known to my coworkers the good news of
salvation. May I use my spiritual
gifts in the workplace to minister as a conduit of Your Holy Spirit.
Direct me to those who are facing critical junctures and need to hear
from You. Give me the anointed words
to speak and present opportunities for me to pray with people who wouldn’t
otherwise seek You. Place in my
hands the keys that open the doors to closed hearts.
I
realize that my true vocation is to serve as a tent-making minister, supporting
myself through my job. You have
given to me the ministry of reconciliation – reconciling people to Jesus
Christ (2 Cor. 5:18-21). Open my spiritual eyes so I won’t regard my peers
according to the flesh – as people unconcerned about spiritual things – but
according to Your Spirit – as people You died to save (2 Cor. 5:16).
In my
avocation, reveal to me the wonders of Your creation.
Stop me in the middle of my work to show me the depths of Your wisdom and
love pertaining to my job responsibilities.
Spur new and creative ideas that will bless to me, my company and my company’s
customers. Thank you Lord, that
there is more to my life than earning a paycheck. Unveil before me my part in
Your redemptive plan.
