The Episcopal Church has now accomplished the unthinkable --- at least it was
unthinkable only fifteen years ago: Eugene Robinson, an open homosexual is now
an ordained bishop in the church. In a move that is likely to bring schism in
the church, the culture war in America has now taken a new front --- acceptance
in the Church, and even at the highest of levels.
R. Albert Mohler, President of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in
Louisville, KY, rightly says that this is no longer the church of Jesus Christ,
but the church of Sodom and Gomorrah. Opponents are told by those who defended
this ordination to read John 8:7 about those who are without sin to cast the
first stone. Yet, do they not realize that the one whom they are ordaining is
not one who is willing to "go and sin no more"? Hardly. Robinson,
formerly married with two children, is now in a "sacramental
relationship" with another man --- and is now bishop.
What does this mean? It means that by-and-large the center of Christianity has
now left Western Civilization. The center is now in Western Africa. Those who
hold to God's Word as the ultimate authority are not in Geneva or Wittenburg,
per the Protestant Reformation. Now, they are in Uganda and Nigeria --- those
ready to break away from the Church of England and the Episcopal Church in
America.
Most of the mainline denominations are embracing the cultural mandates of
'tolerance' and 'acceptance.' Seldom will you hear a sermon on the exclusivity
of Jesus as the only way to the Father. Hardly will you hear a sermon on sin or
hell or on the fact that without Jesus we are under a curse.
But now, we seldom hear that the first institution established by God,
marriage/family, are now passe and are in the process of being redefined.
Vermont a few years ago said same-sex civil unions are permissible. Will &
Grace, in the coveted Thursday 9 PM timeslot on NBC, is the first show to have a
leading man who is openly homosexual --- and their ratings are doing quite well.
Lawrence v. Texas stole the rights of states to legislate when the Supreme Court
ruled that what one does in the privacy of their own home is protected by the
14th Amendment. Canada, Massachusetts and other states are now looking to
legalize same-sex marriage.
The polls of the masses are overwhelmingly in favor of legislation to keep
marriages between one woman and one man. So since the liberals cannot make
headway through the people, they will do so through the liberal judges that have
been appointed to our court systems. And those judges are more than willing to
accommodate them.
God is now being yanked out of the marketplace of ideas. And when there is no
authority based upon God or the Scriptures, then really anything goes. The
boundaries are gone. And those boundaries are now leaving many of our churches.
That is why we cannot keep looking to the government for a more moral America.
Our hope is only found in the Gospel of Jesus Christ who makes people new from
the inside through His death, burial, and resurrection.
God will bless a holy nation based upon His Word. God will bless His church when
the church honors His mandates and keeps His commands. Otherwise, the church is
not "the church," but just an extension of the very society God has
called us to bring to salvation.
May God have mercy on our nation and our churches --- for judgment is eminent.
